Sunday Missal: 28th Sunday of the Year (A) – Page 790.
Teas and Coffees
available after Mass on Sunday and Thursday.
Next Sunday is World Day of Prayer for the Missions, when Catholics across the world unite in prayer and
generosity for the Church’s missionary work. Pope Leo XIV invites us to be “One
in Christ, One in Mission.” Through Missio Scotland, your prayers and financial
support help sustain missionary priests, religious sisters and brothers, lay
catechists, and communities where the Church is young, growing and often in
great need. Please give with your usual generosity.
Thank You for your birthday wishes, cards and especially for that very
generous gift I was presented with in the hall last Sunday. I was lost for words and deeply appreciate
your kindness.
Save the Date: The
Social Committee are delighted to announce that there is going to be a Lebanese
night in the Church Hall on Saturday 28th November 2026.
This will include a 3-course meal and a glass of Lebanese wine, all for
£20. It is also a bring your own bottle event. We are restricted to
40 places and tickets will go on sale on Saturday 24th and
Sunday 25th October 2026. We are collecting the money in
advance so that our Lebanese chef can purchase all the ingredients and we can
order the Lebanese wine. More details about the menu (which sounds
amazing) to follow.
Further Dates for the Diary: Saturday 28 November: Children’s Advent Day; Sunday 20
December: Children’s Christmas Party.

Anecdote - Clothing and Spiritual Change: Clothing is a common New Testament metaphor for spiritual
change. Paul wrote in Romans, “Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ,
and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature”
(Rom 13:14). And in First Corinthians, “The perishable must clothe itself
with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. (1 Corinthians
15:53). In Colossians, we read, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and
dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness
and patience. (Colossians 3:12). Finally, in First Peter we are admonished,
“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because
‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble'” (1 Peter 5:5). Being
clothed anew is a consistent New Testament expression for holiness and
righteousness. The old clothes have to come off, and
new ones need to be put on. —Sunday’s Gospel text confronts us with the paradox
of God’s free invitation to the banquet with no strings attached and God’s
requirement of “putting on” something appropriate to that calling. The
theological point is that we are warned of the dire consequences of accepting
the invitation and doing nothing except showing up. (Rev. Mickey Anders, When
Showing Up Isn’t Enough. (https://frtonyshomilies.com/)
From Pope Leo’s Message for the 100th World
Mission Day 2026: Filled with admiration for
men and women missionaries, I make a special appeal to the whole Church to join
them in the mission of evangelization through the witness of our lives in
Christ, through prayer and through our contributions to the missions. As Saint
Francis of Assisi said, “Love is not loved,” and we look to him in a special
way on the eight hundredth anniversary of his passing to heaven. Let us find
inspiration in his desire to live in the love of the Lord and to transmit it to
those both near and far, because, as he said, “this love Who hath loved us much
is much to be loved” (Saint Bonaventure of Bagnoregio, The
Life of Saint Francis, chap. IX, 1; Fonti Francescane,
1161). Let us also draw inspiration from the zeal of Saint Thérèse of the Child
Jesus, who declared that she would continue her mission even after death: “I
shall desire in heaven the same thing as I do now on earth: to love Jesus and
to make him loved” (Letter 220 to l’Abbé Bellière, 24 February 1897).
Inspired by these testimonies, let us all commit to
contributing to the great mission of evangelization — which is always a work of
love —according to our own vocation and the gifts we have received. Your
prayers and practical support, particularly on World Mission Day, will be a
great help in bringing the Gospel of God’s love to everyone, especially the
poorest and those most in need. Every gift, no matter how small, becomes a
meaningful act of missionary communion. I renew my heartfelt gratitude “for everything
you will do to help me help missionaries throughout the world” (Video Message for World Mission Day 2025, 19 October 2025).
To foster spiritual communion, I give you my blessing with
this simple prayer:
Holy Father, make us one in Christ, rooted in his love that
unites and renews. May all members of the Church be united in mission, docile
to the Holy Spirit, courageous in bearing witness to the Gospel, proclaiming
and daily embodying your faithful love for all creatures.
Bless all missionary men and women, support them in their
efforts, and watch over them in hope!
Mary, Queen of Missions, accompany our work of evangelization
in every corner of the earth: make us instruments of peace, and grant that the
whole world may recognize in Christ the light that saves. Amen.
